Girls need sports uniforms that make them feel comfortable, confident and ready to engage in sport and physical activity.
Rugby uniforms, and sports uniforms in general can have a significant impact on preventing or discouraging girls from participating in sport. Victoria University, together with PUMA conducted research to determine girls' preferences for sports uniforms when it comes to the type, aesthetics, fit, and performance features.
The key findings from the research that might impact the girls currently playing Rugby at your club or those looking to play are:
- 95% of active girls were happy to wear whatever uniforms are required, HOWEVER;
- Three quarters (75%) of active girls said their confidence and comfort would increase if they wore their preferred uniform
- 70% said wearing their preferred uniform would help them continue playing sport
- 43% believed their uniforms make them feel conscious about how they look
- A quarter of inactive girls would potentially start playing sport if they could have the choice of their preferred uniform
- Girls want:
- Sports uniforms that allow them to focus on their performance
- Breathable fabric that hides sweat and fits them well
- Options for a second layer of upper and lower body clothing
