The Dalby Rugby Union Club, based in southwest Queensland and part of the Downs Rugby competition, has seen great success in introducing young players to the game through Rugby Australia’s Get into Rugby program.
The initiative has given local children as young as four the chance to enjoy rugby in a safe and welcoming environment, creating a clear pathway for them to grow with the sport.
A key factor in Dalby’s success has been the support of Queensland Rugby Union, who have worked with the club to train and educate coaches and volunteers. This has ensured the program is delivered with confidence and consistency, making rugby more accessible for families and setting up players for long-term involvement.
"You'd be mad not running it" - Dan Hayllor, Dalby Junior President
The introduction of Get into Rugby Walla has also been a game changer, helping five-year-olds transition smoothly into Under 6s rugby. By building this bridge between entry-level skills and competition, Dalby Rugby Union is showing how strong volunteer support, and the right programs can set up lasting success for clubs across the region.
