Why Strategic Planning Matters

Every successful rugby club needs more than just passion and commitment—it needs direction. A strategic plan helps your club stay focused on what matters most, align stakeholders, and make informed decisions about where to invest time, energy, and resources. It turns good intentions into structured action and ensures your club is not just surviving, but growing.

What is a Strategic Plan?

A strategic plan is a living document that outlines your club’s goals over the next 1–3 years and identifies the key initiatives required to achieve them. It should be tailored to your club’s unique context, but typically includes:

  • A clear vision and purpose
  • Strategic priorities (2–4 big focus areas)
  • Actions and initiatives
  • Responsibilities and timelines
  • Measures of success
